Two years after the PERFORMA cage was assembled at the Apex Spine and Neurosurgery and Georgia International Medicine clinics, Quality Shielding management went on site to interview their respective imaging technicians: Gerald Toves and Lynn Souffrant.
- In these 2 years, have there been any cases of malfunctions?
“No, the cage has never caused any problems, it works perfectly.” - Have there been any cases of claustrophobia?
“Only based on the part of the body being treated, however the presence of the side windows helps them calm down because they can see us radiologists and the outside environment.” - What do patients feel when they enter the cage?
“At first they seem a little agitated but when they see the transparent cage they realize the lack of separation between the control room and the examination room and willingly enter.” - Did the presence of PERFORMA contribute to the publicity of the clinic?
“Being a machine with little presence in the USA, it certainly fascinated many people who then spread the word”.
- In these 2 years, have there been any cases of malfunctions?
“Since it was edited, it has never disappointed us and provides excellent quality images.” - Have there been any cases of claustrophobia?
“Only in specific cases but looking through the transparent walls helps them.” - What do patients feel when they enter the cage?
“Before seeing the exam room, they think it’s a small room, but realizing it’s actually very spacious and the walls are transparent, they relax.” - Did the presence of PERFORMA contribute to the publicity of the clinic?
“We primarily use this resonance for car accident victims, so it has become famous among doctors for its reliability.”
About Performa Systems
The MRI diagnostic devices are extremely susceptible to electromagnetic interferences, so that Faraday cages are necessary to let them work properly. The R&D department of Quality Shielding Cage has realized an innovative Faraday cage, which unites ample shielded windows, with quickly demountable structure panels and a pleasant LED lighting system, to offer the way of installing open MRI devices in few days and realizing pleasant diagnostic MR environments in small spaces. This is the ‘PERFORMA’ model of the UNIMED line of Faraday cages.
General features:
The product is virtually unique in the vast panorama of Faraday cages for MRI environments, because of high attenuation performances, despite the high number of transparent parts (90 dB @ 10-30 MHz [H field] and >100 dB @ 30-100 MHz [E field]). It can be shipped anywhere in the world in special crates, to be mounted in few days by trained personnel under the supervision of a professional of Faraday cages for medical environments.
The transparencies are made of special copper mesh placed between sintetic transparent sheets. All the panels are made of sintetic powder painted Steel/Aluminium, while the shielded doors are made of stainless steel and can be produced in transparent versions. Being modular, the ‘PERFORMA’ cage can suit all MR devices (from the smallest to the higher field ones) by the main manufacturers.

Advantages for users and patients
The special front transparencies reduce the claustrophobia in the people under examination and the special self-porting and independent structure let the installation to be performed in finished rooms in five or less days, including the operations of introduction of the magnet. This type of shielding can be mounted around different types of low field magnets, being properly scaled.
Complete mounting kits can be shipped everywhere, to be mounted by our personnel or by external crews, properly formed by us. Chromatic customizations and innovative LED lighting systems are available at reasonable prices.
